Anchors A-Way is a classic 1965 A-Frame. The present owners, have been using it as a family getaway since they purchased it in 1970. It's a time capsule of mid-century modest. With only 600 square feet it's a darling little gem. The living room, dining area, kitchen and bathroom are all downstairs, and it includes 2 built in twin beds that also serve as sofa's. The loft has a queen bed. This house is for the young, or young at heart as it's got a ladder-stairway to the loft. It's super close to the beach, but in a marvelous wind protected location so you can enjoy the deck in the morning, afternoon and evening. It has as much outdoor living space as there is inside.

We've worked really hard to get this house up and ready for part of the season, as we took it on in late May. Had to check the septic system, painted the bathroom and re-did the floor, and numerous other small projects. The mattresses and the linens have been replaced. There are no reviews, and the photographs aren't perfect. If you're looking for an affordable getaway at the last second this is for you. Oh, and if any of you notice the giant woodstove stack in the outside photos, and wonder why it leads to nowhere inside - we couldn't meet lane county code with the current on, they're may be a wood stove in it's future, but not at the present time. You'll have to settle for the electric knock off, it add's some ambiance - ya, I know it's not the same! I'm posting it online today July 29th, 2013. I've updated the photos as of today September 20, 2013.

I have a thing for A-frames, they've been disappearing, right and left in Florence and on the West Coast in general, as people rip them down and toss up more practical housing. I blogged about this A-frame and Helmsman's Hide-A-Way in January & March, little did I know I'd wind up with both of them in June as vacation rentals. While these 2 represent opposite ends of the spectrum, they're both fantastic pieces of history, if you enjoy rustic, funky, and fun historic houses you'll love them, as much as I do. If you're really into A-frames and oddities, ask me and I'll provide you with a self guided tour list, to see in the neighborhood.

The homeowners are in their 90's and this has been a rough, year moving forwards and realizing they just can't take care of this house anymore ( their children are scattered across the US), but they want to keep it in the family for their children, grand children, and the great grand children. I love'd hearing the stories, from their kids, telling me about swinging out of the loft (before we put in the new loft rail - it's amazing any of us survived ;-) So come be our first guests, and help this great little house, enjoy it's new life.

Enjoy elegant fine dining with an ocean view at the Driftwood Shores resort just a few blocks away, or enjoy Burgers & Brew "where the locals hang out" at Jerry's Place. Anchors A-Way is a short drive from the Historic Old Town Florence gift shops, the Antique District, art galleries, wine bars, coffee bistros, and fabulous seafood restaurants. Explore some of the best fishing on one of 17 local lakes, or play on some of the finest sand dunes, and state parks that Oregon has to offer.
